ONE TOO MANY MORNINGS

ARTIST STATEMENT: While ambiguous in their abstract state my paintings are explicit in their intent to replicate memories. Three specific concepts; Nostalgia, fantasy and cultural identity, are examined to create a juxtaposition between confusion and understating. I use the painting process to investigate how these psychological elusive concepts translate from an intangible idea, and manifest into the tangible substrate of a painting. My paintings are meant to seduce viewers by confronting them with the tension of deciding between the notion of reality and fantasy. The duality of this paradox creates a constant need to search for an authentic visual association, which is crucial in replicating the ambiguity of memory. My paintings are a visual substitute for a presumed sense of nostalgia, fantasy and cultural identity. I am interested in the quintessential conflict between our notions of knowing and understanding our memories. PRESS |
